Questions about the National Healthy Marriage Resource Center (NHMRC)
Topics on this Page:
What is the NHMRC?
The National Healthy Marriage Resource Center (NHMRC) is a national resource and clearinghouse for information and research relating to healthy marriages. We strive to be a "first–stop shop" for marriage and family trends and statistics, marriage education and programming, scholarly research and the latest news and events. In particular, the NHMRC also provides training and technical assistance presentations and documents for federally funded Healthy Marriage Initiative (HMI) grantees.
The NHMRC supports the Administration for Children and Families' furthering its commitment to promoting and supporting healthy marriages and child well–being by providing research and program information and generating new knowledge about promising and effective strategies.
Our audience includes individuals, couples, families, educators, policymakers, researchers, and organizational leaders with an interest in marriage. The NHMRC provides access to print and electronic publications, timely information on healthy marriage issues, and targeted resources that support healthy relationships and marriages.

I am looking for help with counseling, substance abuse, divorce, etc' Can the NHMRC help me?
Remember, if you think you are in physical danger, please notify your local emergency services (911). For other issues, the NHMRC can provide you with information in our
Individuals and Couples section that could be useful to you, personally. You might find information on where to go for help. But, we are not capable of properly addressing concerns of a more personal nature and cannot make recommendations for therapists, practitioners, or programs. Many agencies dealing with marriage issues are local and we do not have a comprehensive listing of these agencies.

What is the difference between the library and the publications that are listed on some pages?
Library materials are available for free by downloading PDF files, or for a small copying cost. Publications are materials that are printed and stored at the Resource Center that exist in a finite supply and must be collected and shipped from storage when requested.

I want to look at a publication, but it costs money. Does the NHMRC charge for its library holdings?
Some of the information that we present as a publication may be relevant to the marriage field, but only available through the company responsible for developing it. In these cases you may be redirected to their Web site to purchase the publication. NHMRC DOES NOT sponsor or maintain these separate sites. The NHMRC and its affiliated organizations are not responsible for the content, accuracy, legality, or opinions represented on Web sites that may link to the NHMRC. Reference to any specific commercial products, processes, services, manufacturers, or companies does not constitute its endorsement or recommendation by the U.S. Government, Health and Human Services (HHS), or Administration of Children and Families (ACF).
