Presented by the National Healthy Marriage Resource Center on August 18, 2009, this 1 hour, 30 minutes webinar focuses on strategies for advertising family preservation programs to Native Americans, keeping enrollment strong in programs, and retaining program participants through the end of the course series. The first presentation by Ms. Jenna Umiamaka of the Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers, discusses using program flyers, radio, and television to market relationship education programs to Native Americans. The importance of tailoring messages to the targeted audience is emphasized, and recruitment and retention strategies are reviewed. The second presentation by Mr. Tom Chee of The Shiprock Home for Women and Children, highlights the Navajo Healthy Marriage Opportunities Project, a five-year project to demonstrate the value of healthy marriages and couples relationships for Native people with children. Components of the program, program goals, recruitment strategies that were used, and marketing and retention recommendations are discussed. Answers to questions posed by webinar participants are also included, as well as a PowerPoint presentation and transcript.
