Many women who have experienced domestic violence are also involved with the child protection system (CPS). Most are poor, and a disproportionate number are women of color, both immigrant and U.S. born. Being involved with CPS can be frightening, overwhelming and confusing for them. This guidebook is intended for advocates working with women involved with CPS. It’s purpose is to underscore the importance of the advocate’s work, provide tips for how to improve practice in this area, and inspire them to better understand women’s situations and help them be safe and self-sufficient. The guidebook has a companion poster directed to mothers, prompting them to turn to their advocates for help navigating the CPS system. (Author abstract)
