Written from a Christian perspective, this book is designed to prepare engaged couples for marriage and strengthen the relationship between married couples. Beginning chapters address the need for intimacy and becoming one with a spouse and with God, learning how to love sexually, emotionally, and spiritually, and repairing intimacy diversions and drains. The following two chapters discuss strategies for developing emotional intimacy. Four steps to emotional intimacy are explained: accept yourself as you are, share the facts of your life, share the feelings of your life, and accept the other person as he or she is. Chapters 6 and 7 focus on developing sexual intimacy and address sexual fulfillment, sexual prohibitions, references to passionate sex in the Bible, and overcoming barriers to fulfillment. Chapter 8 discusses developing spiritual intimacy as a couple and removing barriers to the deepest level of intimacy, and Chapter 9 considers strategies for developing intimacy with God. Each chapter closes with suggested activities for personal application. An appendix includes information for overcoming negative sexual histories. Numerous references.
