This brief discusses the importance of tailoring healthy marriage marketing messages so that they reach African American couples. Marketing ideas are shared that are based on interviews, collaborations, and direct involvement with public information campaigns addressing the needs of a variety of cohorts within the African American community. Findings are cited that indicate African Americans are more likely to be unmarried or divorced than Whites and Hispanics, and strategies are described for reaching African Americans through the radio, television, bus wraps, community newspaper, street teams, beauty salons/barber shops, houses of worship, promotional items, schools, human services, criminal justice re-entry programs, health care, sororities and fraternities, job readiness programs, and community resource fairs.
