Capturing the Vision was first launched in Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a pilot program developed specifically for culturally diverse populations. Capturing the Vision is a complement to marriage education, pregnancy prevention, and healthy relationship education as it augments these interventions with job and career development training, life skill education, and self-esteem building.

Designed specifically for adolescent girls, Capturing the Vision was quickly shown to make a measurable impact on young women’s  self-esteem, commitment to school, and job development skills. For the past 17 years, Capturing the Vision has been implemented in some of the nation’s largest school districts. Numerous evaluations have demonstrated the program’s effectiveness in instilling the supportive skills that augment effective marriage and relationship education.

Capturing the Vision’s chapters include:

Chapter 1: Positively You–Like a key, your identity unlocks the future. In this chapter, students learn how to develop positive identity while completing activities to get on the road to self-acceptance and self-esteem.

Chapter 2: First Impressions–Students examine their self-image and learn strategies to accentuate their positive attributes.

Chapter 3: Knowing What I Believe–Students complete exercises to help identify and instill morals and values, which are then put to the test in hypothetical situations.

Chapter 4: Working Things Out—Conflict Resolution–Students learn the four steps to conflict resolution and master proactive strategies to deal with disagreements.

Chapter 5: Harnessing Your Dreams–Students take a Career Aptitude Test to help them identify career tracks that may be right for them and practice goal setting and budgeting activities.

Chapter 6: Getting the Job Done–Students receive practical instruction to being searching for employment, filling out a job application, creating a resume and completing an interview.

Capturing the Vision’s program components include:

1. A student textbook
2. Interactive video lessons via an interactive DVD and a subscription to The Marriage University, an online healthy relationship training center established by the curriculum developer
3. Student Incentives
4. Couples Mentoring
5. Teacher Manual & Certification Training
Capturing the Vision’s single-sex format creates opportunities that don't exist in the coed classroom. Students benefit from gender-reaffirming instruction that instills confidence and a strong sense of personal value.

Capturing the Vision helps create a safe space where students can explore difficult subjects without fear or embarrassment and receive the support and affirmation to help make them whole.

Capturing the Vision is often taught in concert with Vessels of Honor, RTV’s co-educational program emphasizing the benefits of delaying sexual activity and teaching students how to ensure the health and safety of their relationships.

RTV’s comprehensive online Teacher Certification program qualifies instructors to teach this curriculum.
