This guide is designed to assist leaders in presenting a 1 ½ to 2 hour marriage education workshop based on the seven natural stages of marriage. The guide includes an overview of the seven stages of marriage, findings from a survey of 1,001 adults on marriage, a presentation outline, quizzes and exercises, PowerPoint presentation notes, a PowerPoint presentation CD, an audio CD, and an assessment tool to foster understanding. Part 1 of the guide reports the results of a survey of 1,001 adults and provides statistics on married adults. Part 2 of the guide explains the seven stages of marriage, provides stage missions, and includes group exercises. The seven stages are: the passion stage; the realization stage when passion fades and couples begin to discover each other’s true selves for the first time; the rebellion stage when each person yearns for a return to freedom an asserts his or her own self-interest; the cooperation stage when children, increased domestic responsibilities, and careers transform lovers into business partners; the reunion stage when children leave and couples reunite as friends and lovers; the explosion stage when illness, job loss, and family crises can all happen at any time; and the completion stage. The final part provides an agenda, a list of materials needed for the workshop, evaluation forms, materials for quizzes and exercises, and a copy of the PowerPoint presentation notes.
