This workbook is designed to help couples improve their relationship skills and avoid risks inherent in living as a couple. It provides interactive exercises to teach skills for talking together openly and safely, for finding win-win solutions to conflicts, and for sustaining a loving home. The first five chapters of the workbook teach the building blocks of cooperative dialogue. Chapters address talking directly, talking safety by respecting boundaries and communicating with tact, effective listening, balanced listening, and dialogue skills. The next five chapters describe how to use these building blocks to manage a variety of difficult marriage challenges. Chapters address using anger as a stop sign, receiving anger without fighting, dealing with differences, win-win tips and traps, and handling upsets. The workbook concludes with exercises to further increase the positives in marriage by supporting each other in difficult times and by creating and keeping a loving home. Each skill is introduced with a brief explanation of why the skill is important and how to implement the skill, followed by exercises and a summary of key points. 9 references.
