Unwed Dads in the Inner City: What’s Changed and Why it Matters
Audio Conference Sponsored by
Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity
Wednesday, May 8, 2013 | 2-3 P.M. EDT
Do urban poor dads live up to their image as “dead-beats” or do they really care about their kids? Often vilified across the political spectrum, unwed fathers in the inner city are the subject of a paradigm-shifting study and book, Doing the Best they Can: Fatherhood in the Inner City. The authors Kathryn Edin, professor of public policy and management, and Timothy J. Nelson, lecturer in social policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, conclude that we all should take another look at the father-child bond in the inner city and its critical importance to our nation.
Join Spotlight for a national audio conference featuring a discussion with Kathryn Edin about the men she met during the course of her research, the children they fathered and the implications for policies and programs across the country.
